How to type the degree symbol

Windows
Hold Alt, type 0176 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt. Turn Num Lock on if needed. The number row above the letters does not work for this shortcut. Without a numeric keypad, use Character Map or Copy ° above.
Mac
On a U.S. keyboard layout, press Option + Shift + 8. For other layouts, open Edit → Emoji & Symbols, search for “degree”, and select °.
Phone or tablet
Open your keyboard’s number and symbol panels. On many keyboards, holding 0 also offers °. Availability depends on the keyboard and layout; Copy ° above works without finding a special key.
HTML and Unicode
Use °, ° or ° in HTML. The degree sign itself is U+00B0.

Degree sign and look-alikes

The degree sign ° is U+00B0. The masculine ordinal indicator º, ring above ˚ and superscript zero ⁰ are different characters. Angular minutes and seconds use prime ′ and double prime ″.

Celsius, Fahrenheit and kelvin

The temperature formatter uses a degree sign followed by C or F, as in 23.5 °C. The single characters ℃ and ℉ are also available in the palette. Kelvin uses K without a degree sign. Choose the representation your destination requires; this tool does not calculate a new temperature.
