Working with CSV files
View, filter and clean a CSV file
A CSV export is easier to check when each field has its own column. Use this viewer to inspect records, find the rows you need and prepare a clean working copy before the next import.
Bring in your data
Drop or choose a CSV file, or paste its contents. Check the delimiter and header setting. Examples load into CSV source so you can inspect them before selecting View table.
Inspect the table
Click a heading to sort, its summary to explore the column, and its right edge to resize. Search and active filters show exactly which conditions select the rows. Full screen gives the table more room.
Review and export
Preview cell edits and cleaning before applying them. Use Undo when you need it, then copy or download the matching rows and chosen columns.
Examples you can try
Each example below is the same CSV used by the tool. Load one to see the source, then select View table.
Keep IDs and quoted fields intact
Inspect a contact export with a comma inside a cell, a multiline note, accented names and a long number.
id,name,note,amount 0012,Ada,"Paris, France",9007199254740993 0007,Noam,"line one line two",=1+1 0013,Zoë,"She said ""hello""",2026-01-02
3 data rows · 4 columns · header included
Open the note in row 2 to see both lines in one cell. The ID and amount remain exactly as written.
Find gaps and repeated records
Check an export before importing it into another system. This example has repeated rows, spaces, empty cells and a missing field.
id,name,team,score,status 0012, Ada ,Support,10, active 0007,Noam,Sales,2,active 0013,Zoë,Support,9007199254740993,pending 0012, Ada ,Support,10, active 0014,Sam,Sales,,active 0015,Kim,Support,15 0016,Lee,Sales,9,pending ,,,,
8 data rows · 5 columns · header included
Filter team to Sales, or use Clean rows to preview removing duplicate records. Review the change, apply it, then try Undo.
Read a semicolon export
A comma can be part of a price while semicolons separate the columns.
item;price;status Notebook;12,50;Ready Pencil;1,20;Waiting Pen;3,00;Ready
3 data rows · 3 columns · header included
Choose Semicolon as the delimiter. The price 12,50 stays in one cell. It remains text; comma decimals are not automatically converted to numbers.
Work without a header row
Read tab-separated records whose first line is data, including rows of different lengths.
0012 東京 Ready 0007 القاهرة 0013 Zürich
3 data rows · 3 columns · no header
Keep First row is a header switched off. Compare the missing third field in row 2 with the empty third field in row 3.
Edit and clean a working copy
Open a cell to edit its value. Column tools let you rename a header, trim spaces, change case, replace literal text, fill empty or missing fields, or split a column at the first separator. Clean rows can remove exact duplicates or entirely empty records.
Each change has a preview before Apply. Where supported, choose the whole table or just matching rows; header and column-shape changes apply to the whole table. Undo, Redo and Reset to original let you revisit the result. Your original CSV source stays available in its tab.
File sizes and limits
Open one text file up to 20 MB. The table also has limits of 20,000,000 text units, 200,001 records including a header, 200 columns and 2,000,000 cells. A file can reach one of these limits before it reaches 20 MB.
Pages show 25, 50, 100 or 200 rows, with up to eight columns on screen at once. Pagination keeps the view manageable; the loaded data still occupies browser memory. Larger column analyses run when requested. Oversized or malformed input is rejected with the source kept available for correction.
CSV viewer questions
Can I open a TSV or a semicolon-separated file?
Yes. Choose comma, semicolon, tab or pipe as the delimiter, or let Auto make a guess. If the columns look wrong, return to CSV source, choose the delimiter explicitly and select View table again. Export Excel workbooks to CSV first; XLS and XLSX files are not supported.
Will leading zeros, long numbers or dates change?
Cells stay as text unless you apply an edit or cleaning operation. An ID such as 0012 keeps its zeros, and long numbers are not rounded. Sort numbers changes the order without rewriting values. Commas and surrounding spaces are not interpreted as numeric formatting.
Does filtering search the whole file or just the visible page?
Search and filters check the whole loaded table. Pagination only controls the rows on screen. Copy view and Download view include every matching row and every column you have not hidden, including columns outside the current on-screen window. Header summaries describe the underlying column; for more than 1,000 rows, their preview is explicitly limited to the first 1,000.
What is the difference between an empty cell and a missing field?
An empty cell is present in the record but contains no text. A missing field means the record ended before that column. Spaces count as content. The table and column summaries show these cases separately so you can decide whether to fill, trim or leave them alone.
Can I undo changes, and where is my working copy kept?
Parsing, filtering and editing run in this browser tab. Undo and Redo keep at most 20 steps within a memory budget. An Apply that would exceed either limit is refused; earlier steps are not dropped. To continue with a new history, clear all filters and show all columns, select Download view, then open that file as a new source. Closing or reloading the tab clears the working copy.
Is the downloaded CSV identical to the original file?
Cell values are preserved unless you edit them, but export rewrites CSV quoting and record separators. Filtering and hiding columns also change the exported view. Formula-like text remains literal in this viewer; a spreadsheet application may interpret it when you open the CSV.
