Type Persian here on the standard Iranian layout with nothing to install, even if your keyboard shows only Latin letters (صفحه کلید فارسی).
Three ways to type Persian
Click the on-screen keys with your mouse or finger, or, on a computer, type on your own keyboard through the standard Persian mapping and press Esc to switch it on or off. On a phone or tablet, tap "Load Keyboard" and type on the screen without changing your device's keyboard. Text runs right-to-left automatically, and Backspace, Enter, and the space bar behave normally.
What makes this layout Persian
The four letters Arabic does not have sit on the main layer: پ, چ, ژ, and گ. The number row types the Persian digits ۱۲۳۴۵۶۷۸۹۰, whose shapes for four, five, and six differ from the Arabic forms ٤٥٦. The Shift layer adds the rial sign ﷼, the Persian comma ،, and the « » guillemets Persian uses for quotation.
The half-space (نیمفاصله)
Persian compounds join with a half-space, the zero-width non-joiner, rather than a full space: میروم, not می روم. On this layout it sits on the Shift layer of the ذ key (Shift+B on a QWERTY keyboard). Use it before suffixes like ها and تر, and after the می and نمی verb prefixes, to keep words connected but readable.
Type by sound (salam → سلام)
Turn on the Transliteration switch above the keyboard and spell Persian the way it sounds in Latin letters. A popup lists ranked Persian spellings: pick one with the arrow keys and Space or Enter, or click it. It works word by word and is a best guess, which is handy while you are still hunting for letters like ض or ظ.
Copy, translate, or send your text
When your text is ready, hit Copy (or Ctrl+C / Cmd+C) and paste it anywhere: Telegram, Instagram, a document. Undo, Redo, Clear, and a right-to-left alignment toggle sit in the toolbar, and from this page you can translate what you wrote, search Google or Wikipedia in Persian, or send it as an email. The Shift layer also carries the Arabic-only letters (ة, ي, ك, أ, إ, آ, ء) for quoting Arabic text exactly.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Persian keyboard free?
Yes. No installation, sign-up, or download. Open the page and start typing in Persian right away.
Are Farsi and Persian the same thing?
Yes. Persian is the English name of the language, and Farsi (فارسی) is its own name for itself. This keyboard types both, because they are one language.
Can I use this Persian keyboard on my phone (iPhone or Android)?
Yes. Tap "Load Keyboard" and use the on-screen keys, or set your phone's own keyboard to Persian and type into the page. Typing by sound and the Copy button work on mobile too.
How do I type the half-space (نیمفاصله)?
Hold Shift and press the ذ key, which is the B key on a QWERTY keyboard. It inserts the zero-width non-joiner Persian uses inside compound words like میشود.
Why are the digits different from Arabic?
Persian uses its own digit forms: ۴, ۵, and ۶ instead of the Arabic ٤, ٥, and ٦. The number row here types the Persian forms that Iranian text expects.
Do I need to install a Persian keyboard on Windows or Mac?
Not for this page. For system-wide Persian: on Windows use Settings → Time & Language → Language; on macOS use System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources; on phones add Persian under keyboard settings.
