You can type Russian here without installing anything or changing a single setting, even if your keyboard shows only Latin letters (Русский). The page lays out the standard ЙЦУКЕН keys on screen and joins your letters into words as you go.
Type with your mouse, finger, or keyboard
Click the on-screen keys with your mouse or finger if you don't know the Russian layout. On a computer you can also type on your own keyboard using the standard ЙЦУКЕН mapping, and press Esc to switch that mapping on or off (the tooltip shows "ON / OFF (Escape)"). On a phone or tablet, tap "Load Keyboard" and type on the screen, with no need to change your device's own keyboard. Backspace, Enter, and the space bar work the way you'd expect.
Type by sound (privet → привет)
Don't know where the Russian letters sit? Turn on transliteration (type by sound), then spell a word the way it sounds in Latin letters and pick the Russian spelling from the popup with the arrow keys and Space or Enter, or click it. It works word by word, and the ranking is a best guess rather than a guarantee, so glance at the result before you move on.
The ЙЦУКЕН layout
The top letter row reads й ц у к е н г ш щ з х ъ, the home row ф ы в а п р о л д ж э, and the bottom row я ч с м и т ь б ю. Ё has its own key in the top-left corner, the hard sign ъ sits at the end of the top row, and the soft sign ь is on the bottom row. Hold Shift for capital letters.
Other layouts
Used to a different board? The menu also offers the Typewriter layout, the macOS Russian layout, a translit arrangement for people who think in Latin keys, and ЯЖЕРТЫ. Pick one and the keys change straight away; clicking, your physical keyboard, and typing by sound all keep working.
Copy, translate, or send your text
When your text is ready, hit Copy (or Ctrl+C / Cmd+C) and paste it anywhere: Telegram, a document, a search box. Undo, Redo, and Clear are in the same toolbar. From this page you can also translate what you wrote, search Google in Russian, look it up on Wikipedia, or send it as an email, without leaving the keyboard.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Russian keyboard free?
Yes, completely. No installation, sign-up, or download. Open the page and start typing in Russian right away.
Can I use this Russian keyboard on my phone (iPhone or Android)?
Yes. Tap "Load Keyboard" and use the on-screen keys, or set your phone's own keyboard to Russian and type into the page. Typing by sound and the Copy button work on mobile too.
Do I need to install a Russian keyboard on Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android?
Not for this page; it works in your browser. To type Russian system-wide in every app: Windows → Settings → Time & Language → Language; macOS → System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources; iOS → Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards; Android → Settings → System → Languages & input.
How do I type the letter Ё?
It has its own key in the top-left corner of the keyboard, where the backtick sits on a Latin layout. Press it for ё, and hold Shift for the capital Ё.
Is typing by sound the same as translation?
No. Typing by sound rewrites how a word sounds into Russian letters, so privet stays the word privet (привет). Translation changes the meaning into another language. Use the Translate section for an actual translation.
